Coral Gables getting new ‘modern’ Mexican restaurante

(Updated) A new Mexican restaurant is headed to downtown Coral Gables – right in the heart of Miracle Mile.

The establishment will be called Azul Modern Mexican Cuisine and it’s coming to 127 Miracle Mile. That’s the former home of Kao Sushi & Grill.

The deal to place Azul there was brokered by Jonathan Carter with Colliers, a major commercial real estate firm locally and globally.

Details on the Gables Azul location haven’t been released yet, but the owners also have two similar restaurants over in Fort Myers and Cape Coral on Florida’s gulf coast.

“The color blue holds deep cultural significance in Mexican cuisine and heritage,” a rep for Azul told us. “It symbolizes authenticity, tradition, and craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from iconic elements such as blue corn, blue agave, and the timeless beauty of Talavera pottery.”

We’re told the menu at Azul in the Gables will be similar to their other restaurants and local diners can expect likely expect ceviches, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, birria dishes, street tacos, nachos, and more.

No word yet on when Azul will be ready to open on Miracle Mile. We’ll keep an eye on it, so stay tuned.
