A new Texas-style barbecue restaurant is in the works for South Miami and its being brought to the community by a pitmaster with some serious credentials.
The new restaurant is called La Traila Barbecue and it’s headed to 5840 Southwest 71st Street in SoMi. The news was first reported by our friends over at the Miami New Times.
“Built on Texas fire and Mexican roots, we bring real pit barbecue to South Miami with no shortcuts and no fluff,” the restaurant’s nascent website reads. “Everything is fired slow, cut heavy, and served with intention. No gimmicks, no overthinking — just smoke, steel, and food that hits.”
The pitmaster behind the concept is Chef Mel Rodriguez who had a previous spot in Miami Lakes and was named Best Barbecue by the New Times in 2021.
The preliminary menu includes brisket, pork ribs, beef ribs, pulled pork, pork belly, sausage and more.
Other likely dishes are Mexican Rice, Borracho Beans, Elote, Mac and Cheese and several others.
La Traila Barbecue is planning on opening its doors to diners starting on Wednesday, April 15.
