A new restaurant that specializes in birria-style tacos is headed to Sunset Drive in South Miami. It’s called El Primo Red Tacos.
El Primo is coming to a vacant restaurant space at 5845 Sunset Drive. That’s next door to the Old Lisbon Portuguese restaurant.
Temporary signage has already gone up on the front windows.
It looks like this will be the second South Florida location for El Pirmo. They have another store 179 East Flagler Street in downtown Miami.
The “red taco” in the restaurant’s name refers to the red colored broth that birria tacos are famous for.
“Founded by Chef Frank Neri, El Primo is built on the belief that birria isn’t just a dish — it’s an experience,” the El Primo website reads. “Our signature Red Tacos get their name from tortillas dipped in our savory birria broth before hitting the grill for that crispy, craveable bite.”
“But we’re so much more than just tacos. From crispy fries to meaty smash burgers, we bring you fresh, flavor-packed food that pushes the boundaries of what birria can be,” it continues.
We reached out to the El Primo Red Tacos team and they tell us they are aiming for an early 2026 opening for the new Sunset Drive location.
