Things must be getting close at the eagerly anticipated Cantina Leon restaurant in Coral Gables. The window coverings have come down – we have our first look at the nearly finished space inside – and it looks amazing.
Among the things we noticed – staircases with the Cantina Leon logo intricately woven into the railings and an open-air mezzanine level above the main dining room for private events.
We also saw a large gold lion statue near the entrance that is certain to be popular in people’s Instagram photos. And there is a huge focal point U-shaped bar that must be able to seat at least two dozen guests.
As The Burn Miami has been reporting, Cantina Leon is coming to The Plaza Coral Gables along Ponce de Leon Boulevard.

It is described as a high-end Mexican restaurant specializing in different flavors and dishes from around Mexico.
There will also be a focus on tequila and mezcal and tastings of those “tipples” will be a staple of the Cantina Leon bar.

Still no official look at the Cantina Leon menu nor word on when opening day will be. We’ve got messages into the team there for more details, so stay tuned.
