Big news for Coral Gables denizens as word arrives that famed restaurateur David Chang is bringing his fast-casual Fuku concept to the city.
The commercial real estate team at Terranova Corp. announced that they have landed Fuku to take the space at 135 Miracle Mile.
Fuku is an offshoot of Chang’s famous Momofuku restaurant brand out of New York City. That’s where he developed an off-menu chicken sandwich – “sando” is the slang Fuku uses – that proved so popular, Chang broke it off into its own stand-alone concept.
“It’s not about the frills, the white tablecloths, or having 7 different forks next to your plate,” the restaurant’s website reads. “It’s about the flavor, and we believe the finest flavor is, more often than not, found in an elbows-on-the-table-shirt-staining-spicy-sandwich.”
Fuku has been growing primarily in stadiums around the country, including Hard Rock Stadium here in South Florida. But Chang is going to go traditional brick-and-mortar with the spot in the Gables.
The menu at Fuku includes its O.G. sandwich that started it all – featuring Crispy habanero-brined chicken, Fuku mayo, and pickles on a potato roll.
There are also several other types of chicken sandwiches, as well as chicken tenders. Sides include a Loaded Fries with waffle fries, Fuku mayo, honey mustard, miso ranch, Fuku crunch and scallions. You can see the full Fuku menu here.
