A new sushi restaurant is headed to Coral Gables – and it’s taking a spot that was the longtime home to a Miami favorite.
Bonsai Sushi is headed to 111 Miracle Mile. As The Burn Miami reported previously, that’s the space where Chicken Kitchen was located for many years before closing last month.
According to the Bonsai Sushi website, the brand is coming out of Venezuela where it has more than 30 locations. It opened its first U.S. restaurant last year at 10832 Northwest 58th Street in Doral.
Now, it appears its second location will be in Coral Gables.
The menu at Bonsai Sushi includes all your sushi house favorites plus lots of unique items, including appetizers such as Truffle Spiced Edamame, Shrimp Lollipops, and Crab Croquettes – a Bonsai Sushi signature dish.
Signature rolls include the Fuji Roll with cream cheese, scallions, tempura shrimp, tobiko, topped with a Fuji sauce and the Bonsai Roll featuring smoked salmon, scallions, kani osaki, cream cheese, sweet plantain, and truffle oil – all topped with curry sauce and lightly spicy crispy shrimp.

There are also chicken, fish, pork, and beef entrees as well as wok dishes, soups, salads and more. You can see the full Bonsai Sushi menu here.
The window coverings have gone up at the space on Miracle Mile with the Bonsai Sushi logo, but no word yet on a target opening date. We’ve got messages into the Bonsai Sushi team for more info, so stay tuned.
