New developments at Chop Steakhouse headed to Coconut Grove

Construction work has been underway for several months now at the upcoming Chop Steakhouse location in Coconut Grove.

Now, the new restaurant is getting active online — a sure sign that opening day is approaching.

The future Chop location in Coconut Grove.

Chop is a Canadian brand with 18 locations spread across our neighbor to the north, according to the brand’s website. Now they are venturing into the United States with their debut location at Cocowalk in the Grove.

Chop has taken over the roughly 10,000 s.f. ground floor unit that was previously The Key Club restaurant. The Key Club closed last June.

Now, just this week – the Chop brand unveiled a new website – separate from its Canadian website – for its American iteration. Coconut Grove is the only location listed on the page.

There are no details about the restaurant on the site, just the promise that “an unforgettable steak experience (is) coming soon.”

On Thursday, the brand also launched its new Instagram page (@chopsteakhouseusa) dedicated to the Grove location (and presumably other USA locations in the future).

For background, Chop is a high-end steakhouse and bar that got its start in 2006 and boasts it sold 597,116 steaks last year.

The Canadian version of its menu features appetizers such as Steamed Mussels and Crab Cakes, French Onion Soup, and a classic Iceberg Wedge Salad. Mains include Baby Back Ribs, Pistachio Crusted Cod, and an Avocado Super Bowl.

And of course the steaks – Centre Cut New York, Smoked Rib Eye, Filet Mignon, plus a small and a large cut of slow-roasted Prime Rib are on the lineup. You can see the full version of that menu here.

There’s still no word on an opening date for the Grove. Signage on the walls around the construction site just say Spring 2025. But our experience covering restaurants tells us that the launching of websites and social media pages usually means things are starting to roll.

We’ve got messages in to the folks at Chop HQ for more details, so stay tuned.
