We’ve got un poquito mas information on a new restaurant coming to downtown Coral Gables. We’re talking about the upcoming Cocoliche.
The Burn Miami first broke the news back in March about Cocoliche coming to Miracle Mile. It’s taking the former spot of the The Gramercy restaurant at 65 Miracle Mile, next door to Motek.
At the time – other than a mention of pasta on the signage out front – we didn’t have many clues as to what the new restaurant might be like. So we did some more digging.
We’ve learned that the restaurant may feature cuisine that is a mixture of Italian and Spanish, or possibly Italian and Argentinian. And there’s a good reason for that.
Cocoliche was actually the name of a pidgin language that was used by Italian immigrants to Argentina from the late 1800s to the late 1900s. The language blended simplified elements from Italian and Spanish so the two communities could speak to each other.
We are still waiting to connect with the owners of Cocoliche to get more official details on their plans and the menu they will be bringing to the Gables. But in the meantime, we at least have an inkling what’s to come.
