Delicias de España appears stalled in South Miami

A much-loved Spanish restaurant has been in the process of building a new location in South Miami — marking a triumphant return to the community more than six years after a fire destroyed its previous spot there.

But now, neighboring business owners say there hasn’t been any movement on the project in months and perhaps longer.

We’re talking about Delicias de España. It’s supposed to be coming to a small retail center called the Sunset Strip. The exact address is 5600 Sunset Drive.

Not only is there a “coming soon” sign on the front window of the future restaurant space, but Delicias de España has been given top billing on the shopping center’s sign.

A peek in through the partially papered over windows shows work was started at some point, but there’s no sign of life currently.

Delicias de España dates back to 1997. It’s original location was at the intersection of Bird Road and Red Road, but that spot was destroyed in a blaze in 2018. The owners promised to rebuild somewhere in the area – and after many years, the Sunset Drive spot was leased.

We reached out to the owners for an update on what the status of the new restaurant is and when they hope to open. We will report back when we get more info.

There are two other Delicias de España locations. One is on Bird Road at 7384 Southwest 40th Street. The other is near Dadeland Mall at 8950 Southwest 74th Court, Suite 101.
